2017 National Blessings in a Backpack Week presented by Cigna

September 25–29, 2017

National Blessings in a Backpack Week is a week of events highlighting childhood hunger and Blessings in a Backpack’s work to address it. This year, thanks to the generous support of Cigna, Blessings in a Backpack is working to expand the number of hunger-free weekends made possible by the volunteer-driven events held in cities across the United States.

Richard quote(1)

During the week, various activities and events will take place to engage the community, businesses, “influencers,” and donors to make even more hunger-free weekends possible for children who need it most. This includes packing events, social media and fundraising campaigns, and, of course,
National Blessings in a Backpack Day!

Here’s a list of the week’s daily focuses on social media:

Monday, September 25: Take Your Backpack to Work Day
Leave your computer bag at home, purse too, and take your backpack to work today! When someone asks why you are wearing a backpack, tell him or her about BIB. Post a picture of you and your backpack on social media. Use the hashtags #BlessingsWeek2017 and #BackpackatWorkDay.

Tuesday, September 26: Team Spirit Tuesday
Calling all athletes—little league, high school, college, and professional. Get your team together to collect food for a school in your area. Ask your teammates to bring individual size food to practice—think cheese crackers, oatmeal, applesauce squeezes, and granola bars. Take a team picture with the food and this sign and post it on social media. Use the hashtag #BlessingsWeek2017 and #TeamTuesday. Donate the food to a BIB program near you or, if there’s not a BIB program in your area, take the food to a school in-need, community center, or shelter. Show everyone that ‘teamwork makes the dream work!’

Wednesday, September 27: Wear Your BIB Swag Day
Show your support today by wearing your Blessings in a Backpack swag. It could be a t-shirt, pin, or ALEX AND ANI bangle(s). If you don’t have BIB gear, wear something orange—the color for hunger awareness. Post a picture on social media and let everyone know that you’re joining in the movement to end childhood hunger by supporting Blessings in a Backpack. Use the hashtags #BlessingsWeek2017 and #FeedtheFuture. Click here to shop for BIB swag.

Thursday, September 28: National Blessings in a Backpack Day
For the fourth year in a row, mayors nationwide will join local BIB volunteers in an effort to combat childhood hunger in the USA. We will be posting pictures and videos on our social media throughout the day. You can help us spread the word by sharing, liking, and commenting on our posts. Use the hashtag #BlessingsDay2017.

Friday, September 29: Fundraise with Your Friends
Did you know it costs as little as $100 to feed a child for one school year? With friends, you can join together to feed a child. Invite your friends to get involved and match your donation to BIB. Ask three friends to donate $25; ask four friends to donate $20; ask nine friends to donate $10. Create a squad photo collage of you and your friends and post about your decision to feed a child this school year. Use the hashtags #BlessingsWeek2017 and #SquadGoals . . . and be sure to tag your squad!
