PGA Championship Leaves Lasting Impression in Louisville
For weeks the City of Louisville, KY was abuzz with activity surrounding the 2014 PGA Championship that was held at Valhalla Golf Course August 4- 10. On Wednesday, August 6th, that buzz surrounded Blessings in a Backpack as members of the PGA of America Spouses and PGA TOUR Wives Association came together to leave a lasting mark in Louisville, KY by building and planting gardens at Engelhard Elementary, a Blessings in a Backpack school.
The ladies built nine garden boxes, filled them with soil, and then planted assorted vegetables and herbs. They also spent time weeding and cleaning up the school grounds. In addition The PGA TOUR Wives Association donated and installed permanent benches to be used by the teachers as an outdoor learning area. Going forward, the students will tend the gardens and the food grown will be used in the school cafeteria and sent home with the children. Engelhard Elementary School is currently feeding 275 children over the weekends through the Blessings in a Backpack program. Vegetables from the gardens will make a wonderful addition to the weekly menu.
