Blizzard Bags to help fight hunger on snow days

Blessings in a Backpack of Frederick, MD, packed nearly 1,500 “blizzard bags” to help feed children when school is closed due to snow. Last month, more than 50 volunteers sorted and bagged almost 12,000 individual items, or about 4,500 lbs. of food, for children to take home in the event of a snow day!

Did you know? More than 15.3 million children in our country depend on school meals as their primary source of nutrition. Blessings in a Backpack is feeding nearly 90,000 children on the weekends – and sometimes, snow days – this school year. Food is an essential building block, and in our case a blessing, especially to a hungry child!
