National Volunteer Week

A Note from the CEO

Happy National Volunteer Week!

While we applaud and appreciate our volunteers year-round, we love Volunteer Appreciation Week in April because it gives us a reason to celebrate our amazing volunteers, like you, even more!

Your passion and commitment to feeding the kids in your community are what drive our mission. Daily, you share your time, energy, and talents to coordinate the packing and distribution of weekend bags; fundraise for support your program; spread awareness of our mission to ensure kids have the nourishment they need to learn and grow. And during the current COVID-19 health crisis, you have gone above and beyond to continue feeding kids—finding new ways of providing hunger-free weekends while schools are closed. It is an honor to be working alongside you.

On behalf of the Blessings in a Backpack organization, thank you. We could not do what we do without you.

About National Volunteer Week from Points of Light:

“National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to celebrate the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world. Each year, we shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve, recognizing and thanking volunteers who lend their time, talent and voice to make a difference in their communities.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. Today, as people strive to lead lives that reflect their values, the expression of civic life has evolved. Whether online, at the office, or the local food bank; whether with a vote, a voice, or a wallet – doing good comes in many forms, and we recognize and celebrate them all.”
