2024 Volunteer Appreciation Week

2024 Volunteer Appreciation Week

Join us as we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week, April 21– 27!

With over 400 dedicated program coordinators who run Blessings programs in their communities, plus more than 15,000 volunteers nationwide, who pack and distribute food throughout the school year, there’s no doubt that volunteers are the heart of our backpacks!

From a seed, an apple tree can take 6-10 years to bear fruit. During that time, apple growers provide the tree the attention and nutrition it needs. The same principle applies to the kids we serve at Blessings in a Backpack. Our goal is to provide kids hunger-free weekends so that they are given the proper care and nutrition they need to become the best possible versions of themselves. Our volunteers make it possible to distribute thousands of bags of ready-to-eat food to kids each Friday. And in the end, their efforts bear fruit: kids are well-nourished and ready to learn, grow, and thrive!

During Volunteer Appreciation Week, Blessings in a Backpack will be celebrating the individuals who feed kids in their communities on the weekends!

About National Volunteer Week from Points of Light:

“National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to celebrate the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world. Each year, we shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve, recognizing and thanking volunteers who lend their time, talent and voice to make a difference in their communities.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week. Today, as people strive to lead lives that reflect their values, the expression of civic life has evolved. Whether online, at the office, or the local food bank; whether with a vote, a voice, or a wallet – doing good comes in many forms, and we recognize and celebrate them all.”
