A Legacy of Kindness: Gail A. Jackson’s Bequest Creates a Lasting Impact

One of the largest bequest gifts in Blessings in a Backpack’s history was recently made by a schoolteacher in Modesto, California who wanted only to help children for years to come. The legacy of Gail A. Jackson will live on in every child who receives food from Blessings in a Backpack, an organization dedicated to mobilizing communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for school-aged children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
For forty years, Gail A. Jackson shaped the young minds of kindergarten and first grade children in Modesto, California. Though she had no children of her own, her profound love for her students was evident in every aspect of her work.
Gail believed in the power of education to transform lives and dedicated herself to creating a supportive and enriching environment. Her dedication to the field earned her the respect and admiration of peers and parents, earning her a teacher of the year award.
One of Gail’s most rewarding moments as a teacher was instructing the child of a former student, generational teaching! Her story is a reminder of the incredible impact that a passionate and dedicated teacher can have on the lives of young learners and the community at large. Yet, a lifetime of service to the children in her community wasn’t enough for Gail.
As a teacher, Gail was uniquely positioned to see the impact of hunger on a child’s ability to grow and learn. She ensured that her incredible legacy would continue long after she was gone through a bequest to Blessings in a Backpack. Gail designated a portion of her estate to Blessings in a Backpack through her will, which allowed her to continue the work she had always done – caring for children, advocating for their futures, and providing the resources they needed to thrive.
Just as Gail did, you too can leave a meaningful legacy by designating a bequest gift to Blessings in a Backpack. Including a charitable gift in your will is simple, and it can make an incredible difference in the lives of children who need it most. Whether a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, your contribution ensures our mission continues for future generations of young learners.
