Blessings in a Backpack Across Long Island Program Hosts Race to Feed Event

The Blessings in a Backpack Across Long Island program made history this month as the first community program to host a Race to Feed event. The energy was high, the teamwork was strong, and the impact was unforgettable.

Nine teams came together for a friendly competition with a powerful purpose: to pack weekend bags of food for local kids. By the end of the day, participants had packed 3,600 bags—enough to provide three weekends of hunger-free food for all 1,200 children currently served by the program.

In addition to the bags packed, the event raised more than $10,000 to help fund the program’s mission. These funds will ensure children across Long Island continue to have the nourishment they need to grow, learn, and thrive.

With this exciting first-time effort, Blessings in a Backpack Across Long Island set the bar high and proved that when a community rallies together, great things happen for kids.

“The combination of the Blessings Across Long Island team and the Sachem School District administrators and support staff was one winning team for all kids on Long Island.”
