Paul Colangelo
Blessings in a Backpack recently welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors. Let’s get to know them.
Paul Colangelo is a successful businessman with a reputation for being a thought leader and innovator in his field. As the current president & chief operating officer for Library Systems & Services and a member of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children Law Enforcement Advisory Board, Paul has a passion for a wide range of issues benefiting youth. He lives with his wife and five children in Virginia.
We asked Paul:
Why is giving back important to you?
I strongly believe we have a societal responsibility as leaders to provide the necessary platform for children to thrive and succeed. My father once told me, “The greatest gift you could ever give a child is your time” which now is deeply rooted in my life and has become a practice that I hope to carry on for many more years.
What made you want to get involved with the Blessings in a Backpack Board?
Getting involved was an easy decision. The number of kids that live in food insecure homes is astonishing. As an active member of my community and witnessing firsthand childhood hunger with the children that I coach and mentor, required me to act and find a way to make a difference and Blessings in a Backpack was a perfect organization. It allows me to help give back and ensure the kids in elementary schools across the country are getting the proper nutrition.
What do you think is unique about the work they do?
The immediate impact and the difference they make are amazing.
What are you most looking forward to through your work with the Board?
Making a difference in the lives of children. I’m also looking forward to working with the amazing board members and staff.
