Team Up to Tackle Childhood Hunger

13 million kids are at risk of going hungry this weekend.
That’s one in six kids who relies on their school’s free and reduced-price meal program to provide the nourishment they need to learn and grow. But what happens to these kids when school closes its doors on Friday? Who will feed the kids this weekend?
Together, we will!
Blessings in a Backpack ensures kids leave school on Fridays throughout the school year with a bag full of satisfying and nutritious food in their backpacks. The food keeps hunger at bay, so kids can return to school on Monday mornings feeling nourished and ready to learn.
Blessings was incorporated in 2008 and is the only national organization solely dedicated to closing the weekend hunger-gap for food-insecure kids. With more than 1,000 programs nationwide, we provided 3 million hunger-free weekends for more than 87,000 kids last school year.
The impact of Blessings goes beyond easing hunger pangs. At such a young age, being food insecure can impact a child’s health, social development, cognitive growth, and general well-being.
Ensuring consistent access to food allows kids to come to school on Monday, focused, and ready to learn. Better test scores, expanded reading skills, improved health, and increased attendance are all attributed to consistent childhood nourishment, such as what Blessings helps provide.
Before taking to the field, team up with Blessings in a Backpack to tackle childhood hunger on the weekends! By participating in a Blessings packing event, athletes will fill bags full of kid-friendly and nutritious food and write inspirational note cards for kids in the local community. The packed bags are then delivered to local schools and distributed to students on Fridays.
Events start at 500 bags with an average donation of $6 per bag, which includes event planning support, supplies, and delivery service. A minimum of one month’s notice is required to confirm an event.
December 28, 2018, NC State and Texas A&M came together to pack 500 Blessings bags and create inspirational note cards. Blessings is thrilled to have the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl returning as a sponsor for a packing event the weekend of their game. We hope you will join them and book your own!
