Who Will Feed the Kids in Denver This Weekend? We will!

Join Mayor Michael Hancock and Blessings in a Backpack to prevent childhood hunger on the weekends.

We are working tirelessly to make Denver a city where everyone has the tools they need to succeed. But, as you know, so many of our residents have a hard time putting enough food on the table to feed their families. Almost 70% of students in the Denver Public School District qualify for free or reduced lunch, and for many of these students the meals they receive at school are the only meals they will eat throughout the day, and many are left with little to no food on the weekends.

Children in food-insecure households are at an increased risk for numerous health problems and added emotional and physical stress that may affect their ability to succeed in school. We must do better. We can do better.

My office is partnering with Blessings in a Backpack, a 501(c)(3) currently feeding more than 87,000 children in 45 states, to expand their program in Denver to reach students in five additional schools. Blessings in a Backpack can feed one child for one 38-week school year for a little over $100. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for this coming school year to help ensure that no child need suffer hunger in Denver and we need your help. Donate now, and we will ensure your donation goes to provide weekend nutrition for students in Denver.

Thank you,
Mayor Hancock
