Zurich Classic: A Hole-in-One for Charity and Community

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans once again showcased its remarkable dedication to community support, hosting a series of charitable initiatives alongside world-class golf. As one of the PGA TOUR’s most celebrated events, the Zurich Classic has raised over $30 million for various charities since Zurich took on the title sponsorship. Among the many organizations supported, Blessings in a Backpack was honored to be part of the event, hosting a special packing event to help feed children over the weekend.

Dan Summins, managing director of Blessings in a Backpack Chicago Chapter, attended the event, helping to pack bags of food and share the Blessings in a Backpack mission.

This year’s event continued its tradition of giving back with a notable $3.3 million raised in 2024 alone, benefiting organizations like Blessings in a Backpack and St. Michael Special School. Additionally, the First Tee program received $25,000 in support. Billy Horschel, Zurich Golf Ambassador, praised the event for its outstanding hospitality and the unique Cajun culture that makes the Zurich Classic a standout on the PGA TOUR.

Since its inception, the Zurich Classic has been more than just a sporting event—it’s a symbol of resilience and community spirit. The tournament celebrated its 20th anniversary last year, marking two decades of charitable impact. Despite challenges like Hurricane Katrina, which temporarily relocated the event to English Turn Country Club in 2006, the Zurich Classic has remained steadfast, continuing to benefit the New Orleans community.

Mark Romig, Board Chairman of the Fore!Kids Foundation, expressed his gratitude for Zurich’s commitment:

“For more than 20 years, our foundation has been privileged to experience Zurich’s inspiring commitment to our community and region. I know I speak for the dozens of non-profit organizations who directly benefit from Zurich’s generosity.”

As the Zurich Classic wrapped up another successful year, the spirit of giving remained at the forefront. For Blessings in a Backpack, the event was a meaningful opportunity to connect with the community and make a tangible difference in the lives of children who rely on weekend food support. The partnership with the Zurich Classic is a testament to the event’s enduring legacy of helping build a brighter future for children and families in need.
