Blessings in a Backpack Partners with Elegance Senior Living

In August and September, 22 Elegance Senior Living communities throughout the US partnered with Blessings in a Backpack for the “Fun is the Whole Point 0.5k.” The 546-yard “race” was designed for residents, employees, families, and friends who didn’t want to go the literal extra mile but did want to raise money to help feed kids facing food insecurity.

“We like to say togetherness is our superpower,” said Diana Kramer, Senior Vice President of Operations for Elegance. “All year long, we’ve been having events designed to bring people together and help them connect. The ‘Fun is the Whole Point 0.5k’ was a great way to do that because it wasn’t about racing to the finish line; it was about connecting with others along the way and helping kids.”

There were outside races, inside races, and even a race with an inflatable duck! Participants stopped at “sag stations” for donuts, cocktails or mocktails, and other not-at-all healthy fuel. Ribbons were awarded for various “achievements,” such as best costume and simply showing up. The event was part of 2023 All Together Now – Elegance Living’s year-long mission to achieve 5,000 deeper, more meaningful connections in 2023.

Elegance communities raised over $5,000 to help feed children for the 2023-2024 school year. We are so grateful to everyone who participated in making the event successful!

If you wish to host a DIY 0.5K (the distance isn’t set in stone; you can mold it to fit your community’s vibe) in your area, please reach out to Shannon to get started on your event!
