Start a School Club

Age: High School
Time Commitment: Year-round

If you’re a high school student looking to start a service-driven club, you’ve come to the right place! We can help you rally your friends to start a local Blessings in a Backpack program to feed the kids in your community.

Every Blessings Club needs a lead volunteer, and that’s you! As a High School Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll lead teams to pack food and make sure it gets to schools on time. You’ll also manage food inventory, fundraise for the program, and spread the word about childhood hunger in your community.

  • Just a heads up, you’ll need an adult (18 or older) to help.
  • We distribute food on Fridays during the school year, so consistent volunteering is key.
  • Fundraising is also part of the fun — we’ll guide you in creating a donation page and organizing fundraising events to support your program’s success. The sky’s the limit!

By taking charge as the high school volunteer coordinator, you will:

  • Make a meaningful difference in the lives of kids in your community.
  • Gain valuable leadership experience and teamwork and organizational skills.
  • Build connections and foster relationships with peers and mentors.
  • Did we mention service hours?

Ready to make a positive impact in your community? Let’s do this!

Starting a Blessings in a Backpack Program

  1. Find a school in your area to partner with. Visit schooldigger.com, a website that provides information on the number of children who qualify for free and reduced meals at their school.
  2. Collect money to cover your program’s expenses. Our team will help you create a giving page to share with friends, family, and local businesses. You can also accept donations at school sporting events or host school-wide fundraisers.
  3. Invite friends from your school or church to join the club. This team of volunteers will help spread the word, raise funds, and pack food.
  4. Get food ready for weekly distribution. With your club, pack individual items into bags. You can include handwritten note cards, too! Deliver the bags to your partner school. (This is where having an adult can really help!)
  5. The food will go in kids’ backpacks when they leave school on Friday!
