Bolts Community Crew and Chargers Impact Fund Tackle Weekend Hunger

The Chargers Impact Fund is raising funds this holiday season to support the Blessings mission and score hundreds of hunger-free weekends for Lil’ Bolts in the South Los Angeles community. Will you help the Chargers meet their goal? Hundreds of kids depend on you to fill their backpacks with food this weekend. An anonymous donor will match all fan donations up to $15,000!

Blessings in a Backpack provides weekend food for school-aged children nationwide, including seven schools in the Los Angeles area. But did you know that we also contribute to kids’ successes? Because when kids have food to eat, they have the energy to play, can concentrate in school, and have the nourishment to grow! Kids have their whole lives ahead of them. That’s why the Los Angeles Chargers, through its Impact Fund, has partnered with Blessings to ensure that hunger isn’t holding kids back!

“Our mission is to empower youth and generate access and opportunity,” said Taylor Chavez, manager, Chargers Impact Fund. “So, we’re giving [kids] the resources they need to become strong individuals.”

In September 2023, players Sebastian Joseph-Day, JT Woods, Ja’Sir Taylor, Tanner Muse, Christian Covington, and CJ Okoye joined the Bolts Community Crew, Chargers staff, and Chargers Impact Fund board members to help pack 750 bags of food items. The following week, they delivered the food to 122nd Street Elementary, part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, for kids to eat over the weekend.

Sebastian Joseph-Day, Chargers defensive lineman, said of the give-back opportunity: “I’ve been able to play a game I love and accomplish a lot of my dreams. Why not help influence some kids who want to follow their dreams and do what they want to do?”
