Delta Pilots Charitable Fund Feeds Kids as Childhood Hunger Numbers Soar to New Heights
As closures caused by COVID-19 lead to a rise in unemployment and poverty, it’s estimated that 18 million children are now experiencing food insecurity — a significant increase from the 11 million children who were struggling with steady access to food before the pandemic.
Whether kids are learning in the classroom or online, Blessings in a Backpack continues to answer the call, “Who will feed the kids this weekend?” It’s because of remarkable partners like the Delta Pilots Charitable Fund that Blessings in a Backpack can provide bags of food for thousands of children across America who might otherwise go hungry.
In May 2020, the Delta Pilots Charitable Fund gave a generous gift of $100,000 that helped provide 25,000 bags of healthy, satisfying food, divided up among 11 Blessings programs nationwide. The recipient programs were in the following cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, New York City, Orlando, and Salt Lake City, Utah.
The parent of a Blessings’ recipient in Livonia, Mich., shared, “I have been getting lunches for the kids, [and] they haven’t been liking anything. So, I was like, ‘I’ll go today and give it one more try,’ and they had a Blessings [in a Backpack] pack. My kids are so happy! Thank you to you and your team who do this for the kids and families! It’s much appreciated, especially right now.”
