The D.C. Everest-Wausau program of Blessings in a Backpack is getting a big boost while schools are closed due to the COVID-19. Kemps Dairy and Trig’s grocery stores gave a $13,500 check to the non-profit on Friday, March 20. Kemp’s is also providing shelf-stable milk, which requires no refrigeration.

Backpack organizers are thrilled.

“Every dollar is going to feed families,” organizer Beth Hynes says.

Earlier in the week, teachers packed 3,000 food bags to give to kids who might otherwise go hungry.

Schools serve as distribution points.
